Every staff member is encouraged to improve workplace health and safety by recognizing and mitigating potential hazards. Examples include using proper personal protective equipment, ensuring workstations are ergonomically correct, and handling and storing hazardous materials correctly.
Staff members that are involved with processes that could affect the environment are trained to perform their jobs conscientiously and to practice proper disposal of waste, accurate monitoring of environmental discharges and emissions, and appropriate handling of hazardous materials.
Amgen staff members are required to report all work-related injuries, illnesses or environmental incidents to their supervisor immediately. Amgen uses the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) system to record and report work-related illness and injuries. Amgen experienced a fifty-three percent reduction in the OSHA Recordable Incident Rate (RIR) between 2004 and 2007.
