Continuing its mission to advance science education, the Amgen Foundation has partnered with 17 of the world's premier educational institutions to provide hundreds of selected undergraduate students an opportunity to engage in a hands-on research experience each summer. Amgen Scholars is a $50 million, twelve-year program that provides pivotal research experiences for undergraduate students interested in pursuing a graduate degree and a career in science.
The program has supported nearly 2,500 undergraduates at more than 500 colleges and universities. Through the program, students from across the globe spend 8-10 weeks immersed in research labs in the U.S., Europe and Japan at leading institutions including the University of Cambridge, MIT, University of California, Berkeley and The University of Tokyo.
A signature component of the summer program is a symposium where students hear firsthand from leading scientists working in industry and academia. Amgen Scholars take part in a symposium in their respective region (U.S., Europe or Japan) where they also meet their peers and learn about biotechnology. These symposia provide undergraduates with a valuable opportunity to network with other Amgen Scholars from across the U.S., Europe or Japan.
To date, over 90% of Amgen Scholar alumni who have graduated from college are now pursuing an advanced degree or a career in a scientific field. Learn more from alumni about the impact of the program at http://www.amgenscholars.com/alumni
