Amgen Ranked No. 9 on BusinessWeek Top 50 “Best Performers” List

Amgen is ranked No. 9 on BusinessWeek’s 2006 list of Top 50 best-performing companies. Amgen is the leading biotechnology company in the ratings and one of only two biotechnology companies named to the list.

According to BusinessWeek, the best performers named to the list “have developed products and services that are distinct from the rest of the herd.” Amgen “is adept at balancing its investments in marketing and research, allowing it to boost sales of existing drugs while developing promising new treatments, such as those for colon cancer and osteoporosis,” the BusinessWeek profile reported.

BusinessWeek rates companies on performance metrics, including sales and earnings growth, net profit margins and long-term earnings prospects. This is the 10th year that BusinessWeek has tallied its Top 50 list, and the first year that Amgen has made the list.

The complete list appears in the April 3, 2006, issue of BusinessWeek magazine, and is available now on BusinessWeek’s Web site.
