Amgen Makes Science Magazine’s List of 2009 Top Employers

Amgen was ranked eighth on this year’s Science magazine list of top employers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, moving up from No. 20 last year. Amgen was rated especially highly on three key company characteristics: “innovative leader in the industry,” “is socially responsible” and “does important, quality research.” In an interview for the article accompanying the ranking, Executive Vice President of Research and Development, Roger M. Perlmutter noted that at Amgen, “We look for approaches to disease that have never been pursued. We avoid me-too research.”

Science’s eighth annual list of companies with the best reputations as employers is compiled from survey results from visitors to the magazine’s website, members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and professionals working in the industry. This year, a total of 2,300 respondents from North America, Europe and the Pacific Rim completed the survey.
