Amgen Receives Double Honors at Scrip Awards: Best Overall Pipeline and Best New Drug

Amgen was honored with two 2009 Scrip Awards, winning for Best Overall Pipeline and for Best New Drug in Nplate® (romiplostim), at a Nov. 18 ceremony in London.

The Best Overall Pipeline award was presented to Amgen in recognition of the size, quality, novelty and market potential of the company’s pipeline, as well as its mix of candidates across development stages. According to the judges, Amgen’s pipeline is notable for its focus on unmet clinical need.

Nplate® won the Best New Drug honor because of its novel mode of action and its focus on an unmet medical need.

After the awards ceremony, Amgen’s Jeremy Haigh, Vice President, International Research & Development, said: “For an R&D organization to be recognized in this way by its peer group is possibly the highest accolade it can receive and a signal of its long-term strength. This is an enormous tribute to all the staff around the world who have committed themselves over many years to the development of our innovative pipeline.”

The annual Scrip Awards are independently judged by a panel of senior industry experts and are given to biotech and pharmaceutical companies for their contribution to the improvement of health care.
