Amgen has a long history of opposing doping in sports and remains committed to combating the inappropriate use of its vital medicines and educating athletes, both amateurs and professionals, of the potential dangers of misusing drugs of any kind.
Amgen's mission is to serve patients and to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines to people fighting serious illness. Our medicines are regulated and should only be used by appropriate patients under the supervision of a physician. Amgen strongly opposes any illicit use of its medicines.
The most recent step in our efforts against doping was the announcement of the strengthened anti-doping standards for the 2011 Amgen Tour of California professional cycling stage race in collaboration with AEG (owner of the race) and the United States Anti-Doping Agency. These unprecedented and comprehensive standards have been commended by authorities concerned with doping in competitive sports and are among the strictest standards of any competitive cycling event.
This virtual press kit provides media with information about Amgen’s activities and stance on anti-doping.
