Enbrel Continues Strong Legacy With Another Expanded Indication: Psoriatic Arthritis

Enbrel® (etanercept), the Amgen therapeutic that is indicated for five distinct diseases – moderate –to-severe rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, moderate-to-severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis – recently received its 10th approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to improve physical function in psoriatic arthritis patients with active arthritis.

The approval makes ENBREL the first and only treatment to receive this expanded indication.  ENBREL, which received its approval to treat signs and symptoms of psoriatic arthritis in 2002, is also the only treatment approved to inhibit the progression of joint destruction in psoriatic arthritis.  Thus, ENBREL is unique among biologics as the one and only therapy approved to treat all of these three aspects of this potentially debilitating disease.

ENBREL has a generally well-established efficacy and safety profile.  Moreover, the experience of ENBREL is marked with use in more than 300,000 patients worldwide across indications.
