Amgen Announces Award for Science Teaching Excellence in California; First Year Focusing on Science Teaching; A Statewide Call for Nominations
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Jan 10, 2002 -- Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN)
announced today it is launching the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence
in California, its first statewide recognition program for science education.
Five K-12 educators who work in either public or private schools in California
will each receive an unrestricted $10,000 award check from Amgen, and statewide
recognition, at a special award ceremony in Los Angeles in May.
For ten years, Amgen has conducted the Amgen Award for Teacher Excellence, in
Ventura County. This year's award marks a fundamental change in the program,
broadening it to the entire state, yet focusing solely on excellence in science
Anyone can nominate an educator who teaches science. The nomination letter
should include: the full name of the teacher; the name and address of the
school; the name of the school district; the school's phone number; the grade
level the science teacher teaches; the nominator's relationship to the science
teacher; the nominator's phone number; and a description of why the science
teacher deserves the award. Letters should be sent to: Amgen Award for Science
