Michael V. Drake has been President of the University of California, a system of 10 campuses, five medical centers, and three nationally affiliated labs that serves more than 280,000 students and employs 230,000 faculty and staff, since 2020. Dr. Drake previously served as President of The Ohio State University from 2014 to 2020. He was Chancellor and Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology (School of Medicine) and Education (School of Education) of the University of California, Irvine, from 2005 to 2014, and served as Vice President for Health Affairs for the University of California system from 2000 to 2005. Prior to this, Dr. Drake was on the faculty of the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine in various roles from 1979, and was the Steven P. Shearing Professor of Ophthalmology from 1998 to 2005 and Senior Associate Dean for Admissions and Extramural Academic Programs from 1998 to 2000. Dr. Drake received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his medical doctorate from the University of California, San Francisco.
