Amgen has released a new report this week detailing its comprehensive approach to corporate responsibility. The report outlines Amgen's ongoing commitment to improving healthcare, advancing educational opportunities, promoting sustainability, and upholding the highest ethical standards. “I am pleased with the progress we’ve made,” said Amgen CEO Bob Bradway, “and we remain dedicated to achieving even greater success in the future.”
Here are six areas where Amgen’s commitments to communities around the world are making a meaningful difference.

Fostering Science Education
The Amgen Foundation, the primary philanthropic arm of Amgen, has reached 25 million students and teachers around the world in 2023 alone. For example, LabXchange, a free online education platform developed at Harvard University with support from the Amgen Foundation1, delivered science education to over 14 million students globally. Eighty-six percent of those students are in low- and lower-middle-income countries. The Amgen Foundation’s focus on science literacy and engagement aims to empower a diverse generation of future scientists and innovators, particularly in regions where access to quality education is limited. “The Amgen Foundation strives to build a future where the field of science is as diverse and dynamic as the world itself,” says Scott Heimlich, president of the Amgen Foundation. “Our aim is to inspire more young people to envision a career in science not as a distant dream, but as an achievable, exciting reality.”

Pursuing Environmental Excellence
Amgen's environmental initiatives showcase Amgen’s commitment to environmental sustainability, with significant progress made towards reducing the company’s carbon footprint, conserving water, and minimizing waste. At the end of 2023, renewable electricity accounted for 90% of our total purchased electricity consumption.
Amgen continues to make progress toward achieving its 2027 sustainability goals. The company’s newest biomanufacturing facility in Central Ohio, licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in January 2024, was built to LEED Gold standards, and includes solar arrays and advanced systems for indoor air quality.
Amgen’s efforts also include increasing the use of electric vehicles and collaborating with suppliers to support their adoption of environmentally responsible practices.

Representative Clinical Trials
Amgen is working to improve the diversity and representation of racial and ethnic minority populations in the company’s clinical trial research and to advance dialogue across the industry. By addressing some of the barriers that deter people – particularly those from racial and ethnic minority and other underrepresented populations – from participating in research, our Representation in Clinical Research (RISE) team is helping Amgen develop medicines studied in participants who better reflect the diverse patient populations impacted by serious illness.
