Frank Biondi Joins Amgen's Board of Directors

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Jan 8, 2002 -- Amgen (Nasdaq:AMGN) announced today that it has elected Frank Biondi to its board of directors. Biondi is senior managing director of WaterView Advisors, a private equity fund specializing in media stocks.

Previously, Biondi was chief executive officer of Universal Studios from 1996 to 1998, and of Viacom, Inc. from 1987 to 1996. Prior to Viacom, Biondi was chairman and chief executive officer of Coca-Cola Television. In addition, he was executive vice president of the entertainment sector of Coca-Cola, and its predecessor company, Columbia Pictures, from 1985 to 1987. Also, he served as CEO of Home Box Office from 1983 to 1984.

Frank Biondi currently serves on the boards of The Bank of New York, the Museum of Television and Radio, the Tennis Hall of Fame and Vail Resorts. He also serves on the board of fellows of Claremont Graduate University, and the boards of advisors of the Annenberg School for Communication and School of Cinema and Television, both at the University of Southern California. Biondi received an MBA from Harvard University and a BA from Princeton University.

This appointment brings the number of directors of Amgen's board to 13.
