"Patricia Sueltz's experience in managing fast-growing, information intensive companies will be important to Amgen as we grow and become more information management dependent ourselves," said Kevin Sharer, Amgen's chairman and chief executive officer.
At Sun, Sueltz is responsible for all aspects of the company's software systems business, including Java/XML, Solaris and the Sun Developer Network. As one of the top operating executives, she reports to Sun's president and chief operating officer. Prior to joining Sun in 1999, Sueltz held various senior management positions at IBM Corporation.
Sueltz is a member of the board of directors of Delphi Automotive Systems, a director of the Sun Microsystems Foundation Board, a member of the corporate advisory council for the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business and the Enterprise Software Roundtable Advisory Board. She holds a BA from Occidental College and was a Rockefeller Fellow at the Claremont School of Theology and Ethics.
This appointment brings the number of directors of Amgen's board to 12.
