Remembering Dr. David Baltimore: Nobel Laureate and Former Amgen Board Member

Amgen joins the global scientific community in mourning the loss of Dr. David Baltimore, Nobel Prize-winning scientist whose pioneering work transformed modern biology.

As an Amgen Board member for more than 20 years, we were privileged to benefit from Dr. Baltimore’s expertise in both the lab and the board room where he was always focused on advancing science in the service of patients. His leadership in research and his advocacy for scientific excellence left an indelible mark on Amgen and our industry.

Dr. Baltimore’s broad-reaching research laid the groundwork for advances that continue to shape medicine and human health today. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1975, he was recognized worldwide as one of the most influential scientists of his generation.

Beyond his own discoveries, Dr. Baltimore was a dedicated mentor to countless scientists, many of whom have gone on to make transformative contributions across the life sciences, including many here at Amgen. His belief in the power of biology to improve lives resonates deeply with our mission and will continue to inspire our future work.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. His legacy will continue to guide us as we pursue the science he so passionately advanced.
